About Hayes Mechanical & Engineering
Hayes Mechanical & Engineering is a specialist mechanical and structural engineering contractor serving main contractors, developers, data centre operators, pharmaceutical manufacturers, and project teams across Ireland, the UK, and Europe. We combine deep technical expertise with a direct, client-focused approach – giving every project a skilled team, clear documentation, and dependable delivery from brief to handover.
Our two core services cover the full scope of mechanical and structural engineering: from high-purity stainless steel process pipework and HVAC building services, CHW and LPHW systems, BMS, and package plant rooms – through to structural steel fabrication and installation. Both services are delivered from our purpose-built workshops in Co. Mayo – a 16,000 sq ft carbon steel facility and a fully segregated 7,000 sq ft stainless steel workshop.
Whether you are delivering a data centre, a pharmaceutical facility, a commercial development, or a healthcare project, we bring the engineering rigour, fabrication capability, and on-site experience your project demands.
Our mission is to deliver mechanical and structural engineering solutions that are precise, fully compliant, and built around our clients’ goals. We believe exceptional engineering means clear communication, thorough documentation, and results that stand up to scrutiny — on every project, for every client, without exception.
Our vision is to be the most trusted mechanical and structural engineering consultancy for clients across Ireland and Europe — recognised for our technical precision, responsive service, and ability to deliver complex engineering to the highest international standards.
From a Workshop in Mayo to Projects Across Europe
Hayes Mechanical & Engineering was established in 2015 in Ballintober, Co. Mayo by Alana and Seanie Hayes – two people who understood what proper fabrication looks like. Both founders brought years of hands-on experience from large-scale pipe fabrication workshops in Australia, where quality standards, weld traceability and client accountability are embedded in every stage of delivery.
That international perspective shaped the foundation of HM&E. The business wasn’t built on ambition alone – it was built on knowing what good looks like and being willing to work toward it consistently.
Like most strong businesses, HM&E started small. Early projects were won through capability, not credentials. Every job mattered. Every client relationship counted. Through consistent delivery and a refusal to cut corners, the company built a reputation for reliability, workmanship and follow – through.
Today, HM&E delivers mechanical pipework, structural steel and modular fabrication projects across Ireland, the United Kingdom and mainland Europe – bringing the same level of precision and accountability to every engagement. We build multi – family and affordable housing communities, industrial facilities, public and private healthcare facilities, fitness centers and office buildings. We improve the supply chain management process, increase operational efficiencies and build environments.
Our Journey
Seanie and Alana Hayes return to Ireland from Australia, where Seanie had worked extensively on pipe fabrication for oil and gas processing facilities. What was meant to be a temporary stop becomes the start of something bigger when the first job leads to another - and another.
HM&E is formally established in Ballintober, Co. Mayo. Operating as a small, tightly-focused team, the company builds its reputation project by project - prioritising quality, reliability and doing the job right over rapid growth.
Investing in their own facilities, Seanie and Alana move work in-house - marking a critical shift from site-only delivery to controlled workshop fabrication. This decision defines the company's approach to quality for years to come.
HM&E achieves ISO 9001 (Quality Management), ISO 14001 (Environmental Management Safety) and ISO 45001 (Occupational Health & Safety) certification - formal recognition of the systems and standards that had always underpinned the business.
HM&E is accredited to BS EN 1090 EXC2 & EXC3 for CE marking of structural steelwork - one of the highest execution class certifications available and a key qualification for major data centre and industrial projects.
A second, fully segregated stainless steel workshop (7,000 sq. ft.) is brought online - ensuring clean, controlled fabrication for pharmaceutical and life sciences clients with zero cross-contamination risk.
HM&E wins the Growth & Excellence Award at the 2023 Irish Steel Awards Night in Portlaoise - industry recognition of the company's rapid development, quality standards and project delivery record.
With 50+ employees and two purpose-built workshops, HM&E is delivering high-spec mechanical and structural engineering for data centres, pharmaceutical, water treatment and infrastructure clients across three countries.
